For the past year, Madison power-pop trio, Sunspot has been working on their most ambitious musical experiment yet- coming up with a brand new single and video and release it each month. Starting in June of 2008, when they put out their first single, “2012”, they’ve come up with a new theme for each single, including t-shirts, themed merchandise, and artwork. After an exhausting schedule of performing, writing, recording, and shooting, this June 12th at Madison Avenue, they’ll be releasing the full CD and DVD collection of songs and videos, Singularity. The second single and video from the set, “Sweet Relief”, just won “Video of the Year” honors at this year’s Madison Area Music Awards. And the video for their song, “Uncanny Valley” just won them a spot in Noah’s Ark’s “Rock The Ark” Summer Concert Series after being voted on by local radio fans.
The party on June 12th at Madison Avenue will feature a VIP package for $20 that will include the CD/DVD set, a special Sunspot swag bag, and entrance to the VIP Party at 7pm which will include free food and beer from the band’s sponsors. Doors for non-VIP ticketholders will open at 8pm with regular tickets for the band’s performance at $5 and the show is 18 and up. Sunspot performs at 8:30pm that night. Advanced tickets can also be purchased at www.sunspotmusic.com and the singles and videos can be downloaded there as well. Sunspot is available for interviews and would be happy to provide advance copies of the CD and DVD for review or to preview the show. Also, guest passes for journalists will be provided upon request.
Sunspot is the Cheap Trick of geek-rock and Van Halen for Nerds. It’s all the fun of flashy rock but with the satisfaction of substance over style. With monster choruses, face-melting guitar solos, and sweet harmonies, Sunspot brings the swagger of the stadium to the pocket-protected masses. They’ve been featured at Scott Bakula’s fiftieth birthday party, they’ve been honored as the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Artist of the Year, earned a MAMA for Rock Album of the Year, and have toured both coasts. They’ve performed at Midpoint Music Festival, Millenium Music Conference, as well as headlining unofficial showcases at SXSW for the past four years.
